MEET THE CREATOR
Portland, Oregon-based artist and Public Joy Creator, Mike Bennett, has always been good at making imaginary friends.
An imaginative cartoonist and a child at heart, Mike started using reclaimed wood and paint to make eye-catching cartoon cutouts in 2019, while spending his days teaching preschool. What began as a fun hobby in the garage, his cutouts quickly garnered online attention.

Wonderwood Stories: The Rat King's Bazaar of the Bizarre is a 7,000-square-foot immersive experience and gift shop created by Portland artist Mike Bennett, building upon the story of his previous installation, Wonderwood: The Scourge of Castle Maplehold.

The immersive experience is located in the 1913 Bank of America building in Portland, also home to Mike’s popular Crypto-Zoo and Wonderwood: The Scourge of Castle Maplehold.

Wonderwood Springs is a colorful, Wonderwood-themed space that serves a seasonal beverage menu. It is located just across the alley from The Rat King's Bazaar of the Bizarre.

You can expect a blend of original art, storytelling, live performances, and hand-painted creatures and landscapes that transport you to the troubled town of Maplehold.

Collaborators include Grammy-nominated musician and stand-up comedian Billy Kelly, who created the original Wonderwood score, Emily June Newton (a multi-skilled comedic performer who specializes in clown, physical comedy, and character creation) Sarah Murphy (team lead painter), and Sean Patrick Forsythe (lighting designer).
